Music speaks to us
When, at the very beginning, Sofia is at a loss for words to express her joy at being here on stage with these musicians tonight, I already feel that something wonderful is in store for me. I actually know the instruments that are on stage, but I know the Greek lyra the least.
The first part of the evening, the duo Sinopoulus / Labropoulou begins cautiously, it seems to me as if the two of them want to lure us into their music and not scare us away. And I joyfully enter their world. Sure, there is virtuosity; but it is clearly in the service of making music together, in the service of their music. It is a wonderful togetherness that takes place before me, it is a listening, a merging with the sounds between the sounds.
For the second part, Sarvin Hazin comes on stage with her kamanche. And now something wonderful happens. It is as if a beautifully woven fabric, glowing in many colours, is unfolding before me. New colour shades and new timbres keep emerging. Just as a gently shimmering fabric reflects itself, musical themes are developed by the instruments, taken up and woven back into the whole as an echo. The pace increases, it becomes more passionate. Although the music is completely different, it reminds me of Bach. Yes, again and again three melody lines combine into one whole. The instruments come across clearly and unadulterated, only the kanun is sometimes gently prepared.
All in all, this evening, which musically crosses borders lightly and sensitively again and again, grabs me exactly at the right foot, taking me on a journey that is fully dedicated to the beauty of music.
Many thanks to you, deep bow
